Cornell will make its nearly annual pilgrimage to New York City on Thanksgiving weekend again this season to take on Penn State in the 2014 Frozen Apple at Madison Square Garden.

The game — which has become one of the most anticipated games on the calendar — will be held this year on November 29 at 8 p.m.

The Big Red has appeared at the “World’s Most Famous Arena” five times in recent seasons, the last being the 2013 “Red Hot Hockey” game against Boston University in November.

Cornell also skated at MSG in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012, and all five appearances have been sellouts of 18,200.

Four of the MSG games were against Boston University, with the 2012 game being the last “Frozen Appple” contest against Michigan. The Big Red is 1-3-1 at MSG, with the lone win coming over the Wolverines two years ago.

The Big Red has never taken on the Nittany Lions in Division I play, as Penn State recently upgraded its hockey program and just completed its second season after joining Division I after many years in club status. The last time the varsity teams of Cornell and Penn State met in men’s hockey was back in 1944.
