Danby, N.Y. — A man in his 70s was okay after he fell about 40 feet into a gorge behind his property in the town of Danby on Thursday, according to the Ithaca Fire Department.

He was taken into an ambulance but ultimately did not need to be hospitalized, Lt. Tommy Basher said. The man suffered minor injuries and was pulled out of the gorge trail by the Ithaca Fire Department’s Rope Rescue Team.
Firefighters used a rope system to lower themselves down to the man, put him in a basket and raise him to the awaiting ambulance, according to Basher.
The call came in at about 2 p.m. and occurred on the 100 block of Comfort Road.
Bangs ambulance, Ithaca firefighters and Danby firefighters were among those at the scene.
