Ithaca, N.Y. — For the second day in a row, Ithaca should watch out for severe weather.
On Tuesday, the region was hit with a few severe thunderstorms and high winds, as well as a crippling heat index of 101 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Although today’s high only hits the high 80s, the weather service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch through 7 p.m. for a region that includes Ithaca.
Storms could be accompanied by large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and lightning, the weather service says.
“Primary threats are for damaging winds and some large hail,” the weather service said. “Localized flash flooding, and even an isolated tornado, cannot be ruled out.”
Although tropical storm Arthur is unlikely to travel directly into Central NY, moisture from the storm will interact with a stalling front in the vicinity Thursday — watch out for heavy rains and possible flash flooding.
Don’t worry about your Independence Day plans — Friday is projected to be sunny with temperatures in the mid-70s.
