Ovid, N.Y. — A body was found washed up on the western shore of Cayuga Lake early Saturday, prompting an investigation, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found the man — whose name has not been released — around 11 a.m. Saturday on the western shore of the lake.

Sheriff’s deputies said they think the man is the same one reported missing by family members around midnight on Friday. He was found in the area of Route 153 and Deerlick Springs Road, deputies said.

Seneca County Coroner Debroah Kelly ordered the body removed to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, police said.

An investigation is continuing.
