Ithaca, N.Y. — Two more commercial burglaries occurred in Ithaca Monday night after a string of them were reported over the weekend, according to an Ithaca Police Department statement posted on Facebook.
IPD is doing everything it can to prevent the crimes but is simply overburdened, the IPD statement said.
“Officers on the midnight shift are running their tails off doing everything they can to prevent these crimes but there’s only a handful of police officers on duty at any one given time,” IPD said.
“Investigators are chock full of felony cases to investigate and their caseloads are increasing every day.”
Three businesses on Ithaca’s west side were burglarized this weekend, including the offices of Ithaca to Go and the Warehouse Carpet Outlet on Cecil Malone Drive.
That brought the total number of establishments in the area hit in recent weeks to at least seven. IPD’s statement Tuesday morning did not say where last night’s burglaries occurred.
One man is suspected in three burglaries this weekend. WHCU reported Monday that the investigation into those crimes is continuing.
“Folks if you are one of the 30,000 year-round residents in Ithaca please keep your eyes and ears open for anything suspicious,” the IPD statement says.
“… Your help is greatly appreciated in preventing and solving these crimes.”
