Ithaca, N.Y. — Someone stole 142 volumes of “rare Chinese books” from a Cornell library, according to police.
An investigation is ongoing. The theft was reported to police around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
The volumes were taken from Cornell’s Kroch Library, which is housed in Olin Library on Central Campus.
The stolen items were taken from 15 book cases “over an unknown period of time,” according to police.
Deputy Chief Dave Honan confirmed the accuracy of the report in an interview Friday but offered no further comment.
Cornell police are investigating the theft as a grand larceny report. Library staff did not immediately return a request for comment.
