Tuesday, September 30 workshop on The Program to Encourage Active and Rewarding Lives (PEARLS) from 2:00-4:30 at the Country Inn and Suites, 1100 Danby Road in Ithaca. This program is an evidence-based, community-based treatment program to reduce minor depression in physically impaired and socially isolated older people. PEARLS is an empowering, skill building approach that utilizes methods of problem solving treatment, social and physical activation, and increased pleasant events.
The PEARLS program was tested and developed in metropolitan areas, but in the last 7 years has migrated to many rural areas with great success. Ellen Herner with the Cattaraugus County Office for the Aging will discuss the program, highlight how the program started in Cattaraugus County, and explain why it is so beneficial to older people living in rural areas.
