Ithaca, N.Y. — The Ithaca City School District has reached a settlement with a former administrator who claimed she was unlawfully discriminated against.
Margaret Boice, 62, previously an assistant superintendent for business services at ICSD, sued the district earlier this year for $850,000.
The lawsuit has been dismissed under an order submitted late last week.
The terms of the settlement were not revealed in court documents. An official in the school district’s human resources department said ICSD does not generally discuss civil litigation.
The settlement was signed by federal court Judge David N. Hurd.
Here is Boice’s original complaint:
Boice alleged that that 12 administrators over 40 had left the district under the watch of Superintendent Luvelle Brown. She claimed every administrator but her received a 2 percent raise.
ICSD defended itself from and denied the allegations.
“The employment actions taken with respect to her were legitimate, non-discriminatory and lawful in all respects,” lawyers for the Ithaca City School District say in court documents, “and were made for legitimate reasons wholly unrelated to plaintiff’s age, gender, the filing of a discrimination charge, and/or other protected status.”
The dispute will no longer be settled in court.
Lawyers for both sides agreed in July to extensive confidentiality protections during the “discovery” process of the lawsuit. The word confidential or its variants are used no fewer than 34 times in the agreement.
