Ithaca, N.Y. — More than $70,000 has been raised for the family of Amanda Bush, who was killed in the truck accident at Simeon’s Restaurant in June, according to a report in the Cornell Alumni Magazine.
Bush, 27, was a bartender at the restaurant and a pregnant mother.
Bush’s young daughter and fiancé are doing as well as can be expected, said Adam Cortright, the fiancé, in a brief interview with The Voice this week.
“It’s really appreciated,” Cortright said of the donations, while not confirming the amount raised.
“The community did a great job.”
There were at least two fundraisers set up in the aftermath of the horrific crash in downtown Ithaca.
A benefit event held in July raised at least $9,000 for Simeon’s crash victims. The event was organized by Vicki Taylor Brous of the Downtown Ithaca Alliance and Deb Mohlenhoff of Ithaca’s Common Council.
Additionally, a GoFundMe page raised nearly $25,000 for the Bush family, according to the site’s page. The person who started the page, Nora Abramov, later agreed to pay the administrative fees of GoFundMe.com.
