Update 1 p.m. — Bailey has been found safe, according to the SPCA of Tompkins County.
The SPCA sent out the following announcement:
“***UPDATE: Bailey is safe in the hands of Dryden Animal Control. Thank you all for your help and concern!”

Below is a photo of Bailey, the dog that went missing after a rollover crash near Ithaca sent its owner to the hospital early Monday evening.
Said the fire department: “This is Bailey (may also be known as Bailor), the dog who ran from the car accident on Route 79./Landon Rd. last night 12/22/14 around 7pm. He was spotted near 35 Besemer Hill Rd. around 8:30am this morning. He is scratched up and dodging people.”
Lost Dogs of the Finger Lakes said Bailey was last sighted on Besmer Hill “heading up the hill.”
“This dog is in flight mode. Do not chase, call or enter fields and woods searching. We need him to settle and circle back to the scene of the accident. He is moving away from the area and we can’t set traps if he continues to move away.”
Brooktondale, N.Y. — Emergency responders are asking for help finding the dog of a female driver who was hospitalized in a crash on Route 79 near Ithaca early Monday evening.

Around 7 p.m., firefighters were called to the 2100 block of Route 79/Slaterville Road in Brooktondale about 15 minutes southeast of the city for a one-car rollover crash. They found a Jeep on its roof with the woman inside. She was later extricated and flown to a regional trauma center.
The woman’s name has not been released. A news release from the Ithaca Fire Department said Tuesday morning that the woman’s dog was in the vehicle during the crash and is now missing.
Abigail Bixby, who was at the scene of the accident, said the dog ran away after the crash “in the direction of Brooktondale.”
“Some people tried to go after the dog but could not find it,” Bixby said in an email.
Bixby said the dog is named Bailey and is a “German Shepherd or a mix that looks very much like one.”
The news release from the Ithaca Fire Department urges anyone with information of teh crash to call the SPCA at 257-1822.
State police are investigating the accident. The woman was flown to the Robert Packer Hospital in Pennsylvania. It’s too early to say what caused the crash.
