The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office canceled the notification after the children were found safely. The father of the children has been taken into custody, according to law enforcement.
Law enforcement learned that Leonard L. Thorne, 38, took the two children from an Enfield home after “being notified of a Family Court Order that was issued for the removal of the two children as well an Arrest Warrant for him, charging him with Child Neglect,” according to the sheriff’s office.
“With the assistance of the New York State Police, the New York State Intelligence Center and the Office of Missing and Exploited Children an Amber Alert was issued,” a statement from the sheriff’s office said.
Thorne and the children were located on Cornell’s campus at about 1:30 p.m. They were unharmed and have since been taken into custody of DSS.
The father is in custody. He was taken in front of Judge Rowley for an arraignment.
