Ithaca, N.Y. — Several Ithaca police officers and firefighters were recognized at City Hall Wednesday night as Mayor Svante Myrick read a nomination for recognition for the officers.

Ernest Williams’ father died the night of December 21, 2013, at the age of 85. But in a memo to the city republished below, Williams praised the first responders who worked to save his father — Albert Williams, himself a retired firefighter — that night. (Ernest Williams is also a firefighter/EMT with the fire department, according to the memo.)
The responders worked “feverishly” to resuscitate Albert Williams, son Ernest Williams writes in the letter. And while Albert Williams died, the responders stayed “with us until the end” — even ensuring that family members got to and from the hospital — Ernest Williams said.
“To this day, Officer (Mike) DuBrava stops by on occasion to check the welfare of my mother,” Ernest Williams wrote.
“I applaud my brothers and sisters in the Emergency Services. Please help me extend the thanks and award these individuals the Quarterly Recognition Award for the the work they do every day to make a positive change in someone’s (life).
