Groton, N.Y. — A Groton man has been arrested and accused of sexually abusing a child.

Howard Leonard, 66, faces charges of first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree attempted sexual abuse, both felonies, according to Investigator Raymond Roberts of the New York State Police in Homer. Leonard also faces the misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
The incident took place in February 2014 and was reported to police over the summer. Leonard was arrested on Saturday.
The victim is 13 years old, according to authorities. The victim knew the suspect prior to the incident, the investigator said.
Leonard will appear in Groton Town Court on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 2:30 p.m.
He was released to his attorney during an arraignment and is not currently in jail, according to Investigator Roberts. An order of protection has been issued as well.
