Co-owners Amelia Sauter and Leah Houtaling began selling their cupcakes at the Atomic Lounge in Ithaca two years ago, and now they plan to partner with a new art gallery in Trumansburg called TART.

Sauter said she decided to expand after friends encouraged her to look into a building that was for sale in Trumansburg, and she fell in love with the building.

She said they will be renovating the apartment and additional retail space, with a goal of changing the function of the building to a combined wine bar and bakery in about six months.

Sauter said she envisions a symbiotic relationship with the art gallery, which plans to feature Trumansburg artists.

“I think having the cupcakes available … will help bring people into the art gallery and I think the art gallery will help bring people to cupcakes,” Sauter said. “I think the most important concept that tie the two together is that Trumansburg is a very community focused village.”

Felicia’s cupcakes “happen to be vegan,” Sauter said, because she is allergic to dairy and wanted to be able to eat her own creations. Except for varieties using goat cheese frosting and bacon sprinkles, all cupcakes are vegan and have found an important niche market in the area.

The TART gallery will have limited hours, and Amelia’s cupcakes will be available on Fridays and Saturdays as a retail product to start.
