Ithaca, N.Y. — An Ithaca man was arrested Wednesday after defrauding the Department of Social Services for over $35,000 in benefits, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.

James C. Dickey III, 40, was charged with two counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and two counts of third-degree welfare. The charges are felonies.

The Tompkins County Department of Social Services Fraud Unit conducted the investigation.

The arrest was announced Wednesday. Law enforcement say James ā€œsubmitted fraudulent recertification applications in order to receive Social Services benefits.ā€

James was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and released.
