Ithaca, N.Y. — An Ithaca man was arrested Wednesday after defrauding the Department of Social Services for over $35,000 in benefits, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.

James C. Dickey III, 40, was charged with two counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and two counts of third-degree welfare. The charges are felonies.
The Tompkins County Department of Social Services Fraud Unit conducted the investigation.
The arrest was announced Wednesday. Law enforcement say James “submitted fraudulent recertification applications in order to receive Social Services benefits.”
James was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and released.
