Michael Dmochowski, 18, was killed in the car accident on Saturday, the East Niagara Post reported.
The Voice has not been able to confirm where or how the crash occurred. That information has not been reported by the Buffalo area news outlets, either.
State police and the Tompkins County 911 Dispatch Center did confirm that there was a fatal accident in Tioga County on Route 34/Route 96 on Friday. (There were no recent fatal crashes in Tompkins County.)
However, a state police sergeant reached Sunday said he could not confirm the name of the victim in the Tioga County accident, which does not appear to have been reported previously.
Dmochowski was a student at Lockport High School, which is near Niagara Falls — about two hours northwest of Ithaca.
There, Dmochowski “was a star member of the LHS swim team and was the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award,” the East Niagara Post reported.
His high school’s Saturday night performance of “Seussical the Musical” was performed in Dmochowski’s honor.
The Buffalo News also reported that Dmochowski spent Friday at Ithaca College and was considering scholarship offers.
Reached Sunday, an Ithaca College spokesperson said he was looking into any information on the student’s visit to the college.
