Ithaca, N.Y. — Three Ithaca bands will come together to raise funds for the city’s iconic State Theater on May 2, marking the first time the concert is featuring three different groups.

The concert was announced today.
Local favorites The Sim Redmond Band, The Blind Spots and The New York Rock will play at the annual “Benefit My State – A Local State of Mind” concert, which also features a raffle contest and a silent auction.
Founded in 1999, SRB features a blend of Roots-Rock, African, and Jamaican music. Female-fronted moxy band The Blind Spots sports vintage keyboard sounds and electric guitar stylings; while The New York Rock has opened and performed across the country.
The bands were chosen because of their local appeal and roots, said Casey Martin, marketing director at the theater. He added they are expecting a younger crowd this year.
“The three bands we chose are all well liked, well known local bands,” he said. “They each have their own individual sound. They all make up what everyone thinks a band from Ithaca sounds like.”
The State Theater is Tompkins County’s last remaining historic theater, and started off as auto garage and dealership in 1915. Tickets to benefit concert are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. They can be purchased here.
