Update 11 a.m. —
The Statler Hotel and Statler Hall are both reopened. Charter Day events in the hotel and school will not be affected. The Terrace will reopen on Monday.
Classes in Statler Hall today will resume at 1:25.
The following updates were provided by a Cornell spokesperson at 9:30 a.m.:
— The fire is out. Cornell Police received the initial call about the fire at 7:56 a.m. today
— No injuries were reported.
— Guests were evacuated, but should be able to return to the Statler Hotel within an hour.
— Guests are now in the ILR complex.
— The fire was contained — and probably originated — in a grease hood in an upper-floor kitchen
— Air quality experts are currently testing the air in the hotel. Once they’ve given their approval, guests can return to their rooms.

The fire was reported to be out and under control by around 9 a.m. People are urged to avoid the area.
Emergency dispatch reports indicate that there is no fire inside the Statler and that reported electrical issues have been resolved.

Authorities said the fire was reported to begin around 8 a.m. WHCU reported that the fire started in the duct work of the building.
“CornellALERT: Classes in Statler Hall & Hotel suspended until further notice due to fire. Avoid area. Update when classes resume.”
The road is closed until further notice.
