Last week was Police Week (May 10-16), a time when we honor law enforcement officers that have given the ultimate sacrifice and recognize those that continue to protect and serve. (http://www.policeweek.org)

I am the President of the Tompkins County LEO Wives Organization. Our group seeks to spread awareness and gain community support for our local law enforcement officers.

Our mission statement is as follows:

The Tompkins County LEO Wives supports and encourages law enforcement officers and their families. Through fundraising, events, and social media we seek to increase unity, awareness, and education in the community and provide financial support to local LEO families and charities in need.

We have teamed up with MANY local businesses to recognize our local law enforcement during this week. We will be hosting a law enforcement reception at Crossroads, Jay is donating all of the food, and we will give away multiple gifts donated. In addition to donations for the reception some businesses have offered discounts for the rest of the month for officers, such as Cayuga Chiropractic and Wellness who is giving discounted new patient exam to officers through the end of May.

We have been distributing signs with the thin blue line logo that read “We Support Tompkins County Law Enforcement” to businesses who have happily displayed them in their windows to show support. At a time when it feels there is a war on police it is so comforting to find such a large amount of support for our loved ones who protect and serve.
