ITHACA, N.Y. – Save your tokens for the arcade and be the first to play dozens of new video games for free at the annual Cornell Game Design Initiative Showcase, Friday, May 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 242 Carpenter Hall on Cornell University campus.
The showcase is open to the general public and will feature both PC and mobile games created for various classes and independent studies over the past year at Cornell. Visitors are encouraged to actively play the games and vote for their favorite.
Some of this year’s projects include:
Dash– Developed by Noah Grossman, Roger Chen, Robin Martin, Sofonias Assefa, Steven Mah and Karen Zhou, Dash was selected for the Boston Independent Festival of Games. Dash is a flight action game where you must dash through their enemies to stay airborne. The developers are close to a commercial mobile release.
Ersatz – Gamers play this PC product as a time traveling thief. For example, if a guard is in your way, you can distract the guard, go back in time, and send a separate copy of yourself to walk past the distracted guard. Student developers are Bo Yuan Zhou, Dou Mao, Fukang Wen, John Flanagan, Mengyun Xia, and Rene Zhang.
Brutus Break – In this interesting mobile game, gamers play the sidekick to a powerful, but not particularly bright hero. Gamers have to keep the hero out of trouble as he bumbles his way through enemies and traps. Student developers are Alexander Fusco, Annika Lutan, Anthony Xia, Jung-Ho Sohn, Ruiying Yang, Yee-Ting Cheuk.
The Game Design Initiative at Cornell University is part of the Department of Computer Science and is led by Director Walker White, computer science professor and primary instructor for the game design courses.
Visitors should enter Carpenter Hall from the Campus Road entrance. There will be signs giving directions to the various games.
