Ithaca, NYUpstate Venture Association of New York (UVANY) will host a networking event highlighting the success of Ithaca’s entrepreneurial ecosystem from 5-8pm on Thursday, June 11 at the Coltivare Culinary Center. Guest speakers include Ithaca’s Mayor, the Honorable Svante L. Myrick, and Chelsea Rao of Empire State Development. Jennifer Tegan, UVANY President and Partner at Cayuga Venture Fund, will provide opening remarks.

Speakers will be followed by pitches from entrepreneurs participating in the Rev: Ithaca Startup Works business incubator and the Kevin M. McGovern Family Center for Venture Development in the Life Sciences at Cornell University.

“Ithaca is breaking new ground with entrepreneurs who are making a difference in the local economy, and our goal for this event is to show off those efforts,” said Sam Ticknor, Executive Director of UVANY. “Our speakers will share insight on Ithaca’s innovation economy, while entrepreneurs get a chance to network with investors and experienced business leaders from across Upstate.”

Since 2003, UVANY has hosted hundreds of events to connect investment capital with businesses, and entrepreneurs with the resources needed for success. Past events held statewide have attracted hundreds of participants and partners from the business community, higher education, and the public sector.

“We have a strong sense of community in Ithaca, so it’s an exciting opportunity for our entrepreneurs to pitch their companies to such a dynamic crowd,” said Tom Schryver, Executive Director for the Center for Regional Economic Advancement at Cornell University and main organizer for Rev: Ithaca Startup Works. “With Rev, we’re interested in companies that can articulate a sensible, scalable business model. In turn, our hope is to drive growth and job creation in the area.”

The event marks an informal kick off for the Business Incubator Association of New York State (BIANYS) Annual Meeting which commences the following day in Ithaca. BIANYS aims expand the resources available to startup companies, and work with policy makers on matters affecting the growth and development of incubator based enterprises.

Attendance is open to the public. Tickets can be reserved by visiting uvany.org. For additional information, please contact Sam Ticknor at 518-320-2746 or samticknor@uvany.org.
