ITHACA, N.Y. – Nearly 4,000 people are without power Friday night in Tompkins County, according to the New York State Electric and Gas Corporation.

The power is out after a tornado watch throughout Central New York and the Souther Tier was announced by the National Weather Service just after 3 p.m. The warning was originally in effect until 11 p.m., but canceled in the late afternoon.
In Cortland County, 654 people are without power while 6,133 and 1,220 people are without power in Chenango and Schuyler counties respectively.
Some thunderstorms are still expected in Tompkins County, but the weather service said around 8 p.m. that no more seriously hazardous weather is expected Friday.
No major accidents have been reported in Tompkins County as of about 9:40 p.m., according to a 911 dispatcher. He said there have been some reports of downed power lines and trees.
