ITHACA, N.Y. – A woman lost control of her vehicle when she swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the town of Ithaca Wednesday night, an official said.

The woman was driving north on the 1100 block of Danby Road when a deer walked into the roadway, said Lt. Dan Donahue, of the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.

He said that when the woman swerved, her car rammed into a ditch on the west side of the road and flipped upside down.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance responded to the scene.

The woman was taken to Cayuga Medical Center with minor injuries.
