ITHACA, N.Y. — A Spencer man has been accused of possessing heroin after he was arrested by Cornell University police officers.

Richard W. Trim, 41, faces charges of seventh-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class A misdemeanor; Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, a class A misdemeanor; and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation.

Trim was stopped on July 1. A statement publicizing the arrest was released by Cornell police on its Facebook page today.

Here’s the account given by police:

A Cornell Police officer on patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding and a loud exhaust on Pine Tree Road in the Town of Ithaca at approximately 9:30 p.m.

During the stop, officers discovered a quantity of hypodermic needles, heroin and marijuana inside the vehicle.

Trim was taken into custody at the scene, processed and released. Trim is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ithaca court on July 29.
