The watch starts at 1 p.m. and is scheduled to last until 10 p.m. in Tompkins, Schuyler, Cortland and other Southern Tier and Central New York counties.

The weather service says more than an inch of rain is possible during the storms, which could cause flash flooding.

In Ithaca, The Weather Channel is forecasting the heaviest rainfall and storms to happen between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. before decreasing in likelihood through Friday morning.
