ITHACA, N.Y. — A truck dropped a load of compost and topsoil on an Ithaca street, which backed up traffic in the area for nearly 40 minutes.

Ithaca Police were called to the intersection of North Fulton and West Green streets at 10:04 a.m., a Tompkins County 911 dispatcher said.

An officer at the scene helped block traffic while two employees from nearby Ithaca Agway used two skid-steer loaders and shovels to clear the debris.
Employee Luis Gonzalez said they store cleared the street to help alleviate traffic in the area. He said the topsoil and compost mixture was dropped along the street for about 20 to 30 feet.
An officer at the scene said police do not know which vehicle dropped the debris.
