The 2nd Annual Northside Community Celebration on Saturday August 8th, 3-6 pm is a neighborhood party open to the entire community. This street party organized by Northside United, will be held in the Quaker Meetinghouse parking lot and building, at the corner of Third and Madison. That block of Madison St. will be closed for childrens’ games and activities.
The celebration will feature live music, food and family fun. “We hope the event will bring neighbors and other community residents out to meet each other while enjoying good music and food”, said Tessa Friedeborn, event organizer.
“The Northside is a very culturally diverse community. We are celebrating that diversity in the music, dance and food at the event”, said Friedeborn. The performances will include a variety of music from blue grass to Filipino strings to druumming.. The food will be from many cultures as well. People are encouraged to bring gently used toys for a toy swap. All sorts of childrens’ activities are planned.
Northside United is a new grassroots organization with a goal of connecting people who live, work and worship in the Northside Triangle neighborhood, which runs north from Cascadilla Street and east of Cascadilla Creek.
The group has identified “block stewards” who are knocking on doors of neighbors and encouraging them to join the organization. In addition to an annual celebration, the group hopes to offer many other ways for neighbors to get to know and help each other.
