ITHACA, N.Y. — Road games at traditional powers Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and Syracuse and home games against defending league champions Lafayette (Patriot) and Albany (America East) highlight the 2015-16 Cornell men’s basketball season.
The 28-game schedule includes 13 home games, according to a schedule announced this week.
Cornell will play its first two games of the season on the road (Georgia Tech, Nov. 13; Colgate, Nov. 16) before opening the home slate against Binghamton on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m.
The Big Red will play its annual Division III game on Nov. 23 against Penn State-Harrisburg, then faces Pittsburgh for the first time since 1992 when it heads to the Steel City two days later.
A short break for Thanksgiving will end when Cornell visits UMass Lowell on Nov. 29, but the Big Red returns home for a two-game homestand before the exam break when Siena (Dec. 1) and Lafayette (Dec. 5) visit Newman Arena. The Leopards, who won 20 games in advancing to the NCAA tournament as Patriot League Tournament champs, will face the Big Red for the first time in 10 seasons.
The Big Red will play nine games in the season’s first 22 days before a two-week break for exams. Cornell will return to action at Syracuse, where it will attempt to snap a 34-game losing streak against the Orange, before MAAC contender Monmouth visits Newman Arena on Dec. 23. Cornell will close out the calendar year when it visits Saint Peter’s on Dec. 28.
After flipping the page into 2016, the Big Red will gear up for Ivy play when 2015 NCAA tournament participant Albany visits Ithaca on Jan. 2, then closes out non-league play on Jan. 6 when it visits Howard.
The always rigorous Ivy League schedule kicks off in New York City on Jan. 16 when the Big Red meets travel partner Columbia for the first leg of the home-and-home series. The Big Red will also have home-and-home series with each of the other six schools, including 2015 co-champs Yale and Harvard, as well as CIT participant Dartmouth.
