ITHACA, N.Y. — Opening statements are beginning around 9:15 a.m. Friday in the murder trial of Benjamin Cayea, who is accused of killing his girlfriend on Thanksgiving.

A 12-person jury – comprised of eight men, four women and three female alternates — was selected Wednesday.
Cayea faces a second-degree murder charge after court records show that he allegedly confessed to strangling Shannon Jones last year.
