DRYDEN, N.Y. — A man accused of raping a woman in Dryden is in custody after he allegedly called the woman last week, court records show.
Jeffrey L. Horton, 52, was previously released on $100,000 bail for 10 felony and six misdemeanor charges in regard to a March 24 incident where he is accused of attacking and raping a woman in her home for about two hours.
According to court records, he called the woman at 9:33 p.m. Wednesday. It is a violation of a court issued order of protection for Horton to contact her.
The records state that the woman answered a call from an unknown number.
A male voice on the other end reportedly said, “It’s Jeff — Jeff the one who is not supposed to call you. I want to talk to you. Can we talk?”
The woman hung up the phone and checked her home to ensure all doors and windows were locked, the records say.
Horton is charged with second-degree criminal contempt. An official at the Tompkins County Jail said Monday morning that Horton is still in custody.
He in jail in lieu of posting $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond.
Horton’s attorney Luke Fenchel, of Holmberg Galbraith law firm, declined to comment Saturday morning about the arrest.
