ITHACA, NY – The Cayuga Vocal Ensemble, Ithaca’s professional choir is celebrating it’s 40th season this year. Our December concert, entitled”Celebrating 40 Years” will feature as its centerpiece the “Mass for Four Voices” of English Renaissance composer William Byrd.
The music of Byrd has been a staple of the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble’s repertoire since its inception; in fact, Byrd’s “Mass for Three Voices” was featured on the very first concert given by the singers who eventually became CVE.
The performance will include other seasonal choral works that were also performed on the group’s very first concert in December 1975: Gustav Holst’s beloved “In the Bleak Midwinter”, “Ave Maria” by Anton Bruckner, and “The Three Kings” by Canadian composer Healey Willan. The program will include other festive holiday fare, and will culminate in an audience sing-along of popular carols.
The concert will be held at 4pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca at 315 N Cayuga Street (at the corner of Court and Cayuga).
Advance tickets ($15) can be purchased via our website www.cayuga-vocal.org or at Pastimes Antique Store in the Dewitt Mall. Tickets will also be available at the door for $20.
