During a scheduled, periodic structural examination of the Green Street Parking Garage a significant amount of deterioration was discovered in one of the top floor beams. In order to assure the safety of the public, parking will be prohibited on a portion of the top floor.
Temporary bracing for the affected beam is currently being fabricated and will be installed in the next 2 – 3 weeks. Upon installation of the temporary bracing the top floor will be returned to service.
The temporary bracing will consist of approximately eight structural steel posts with concrete footings in “Butterfly Alley” which will support the underside of the lower deck. A similar number of shorter structural steel posts will be installed on top of the lower deck and support a continuous beam under the top deck.
Some portions of the decorative grating and some art work will be removed in order to install the temporary bracing.
Design of remedial work is provided by Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. of Rochester, NY. Construction support for this work is provided by Crane-Hogan Structural Systems, Inc. of Spencerport, NY.
Parking garage customers are encouraged to find alternate parking in the Seneca Street Garage or the Cayuga Street Garage. Monthly permits for Green Street Garage will be accepted at Seneca Street Garage only.
Your cooperation and patience while bracing and repairs are implemented is appreciated.
