ITHACA, N.Y. — After allegedly trying to steal electronics from a store, a man admitted to fleeing from police, walking into an empty home and swapping his clothing in an attempt to disguise himself, court records show.

Larry M. Wells II, 22, of Freeville, is charged with second-degree burglary and petit larceny for an incident that happened Thursday afternoon.
He’s in custody at the Tompkins County Jail as of Tuesday morning without bail.
Court records, which included a written confession from Wells, detailed the following narrative:
Around 3:00 p.m. Thursday, Wells’ friend gave him a ride to a Walmart in Ithaca.
“When I got to Walmart, I began thinking of supplying my drug habit. I saw a TV and surround sound and thought it would be a good idea to steel [sic] them and trade them for drugs,” he wrote.
Wells said he loaded the items, along with several other household goods, into a shopping cart and attempted to walk out of the store. An employee grabbed the cart and stopped him from leaving with the merchandise, but he was able to run from the store.
He said he headed to a fast-food restaurant, but saw police headed toward him, and ran to a nearby apartment instead.
When he got to an apartment on the 500 block of Spencer Road, Wells knocked on the door and intended to ask if he could hide inside from someone trying to beat him up. Finding the door unlocked and the home empty, however, he went inside.
While in the home, he took his clothes off and put on a resident’s New York Giants sweatshirt, sweatpants, a yellow T-shirt and black sneaker before leaving the home while holding a bottle of water.
Police took him into custody after questioning him near the apartment.
