Update at 4 p.m. – Ithaca police have confirmed that a body was found in the water at the Ithaca Falls Wednesday afternoon.

Officer Jamie Williamson said, “At about 2:30 p.m. there was a call for what thought to be a dead body in the Ithaca Falls area.”
He said that when police arrived, they found a person washed onto the bank of the falls between the second Stewart Avenue bridge and the next large waterfall by Lake Street.
“It didn’t make it over the big falls,” Williamson said.
He said officials are investigating the scene and surrounding area, and Willard Way will be closed for about another hour.
The person’s identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
The Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance also responded to the scene and assisted in removing the body from the area.

ITHACA, N.Y. – Emergency responders are being called to a report of “possibly a person in the water” near the top of the Ithaca Falls on Wednesday afternoon, according to Tompkins County 911 Dispatch Center.
The call was received at 2:30 p.m. Ithaca and Cornell police are on scene now, along with the Ithaca Fire Department, Bangs Ambulance and Cornell Environmental Health and Safety.
They were dispatched to the 800 block of Stewart Ave., according to Tompkins County 911 Dispatch. Responders were also seen on North Willow Way.
