ITHACA, NY – Donna M. Abbot, 77, of Franklinville, NY was on her way to visit family for the holidays when she died in a crash near Trumansburg on Tuesday, Dec. 22, according to her obituary.

Abbott is survived by her two children, daughter Amy McDonnell of Trumansburg and son Lee Abbott of Fredonia, and two grandchildren, Liam and Drew McDonnell. She is also survived by two sisters, two brothers and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, according to her obituary.

Abbott was born Dec. 9, 1938 in Arcade, NY. She was a graduate of Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville. Her husband Philip, whom the obituary described as “the love of her life,” had also attended the school. Philip predeceased Donna in March 2010.

Abbot would later go on to work for the Ten Broeck Academy for many years, first as treasurer of the district and later as secretary to the superintendent before she retired.

Abbott’s obituary says that was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Franklinville, the Ischua Valley Historical Society, and the Philomathic Club of Franklinville (a philomath is a lover of learning and studying).

Friends may gather with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home, 7 N. Main St., Franklinville. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 31, 2015) at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, corner of Main and Green streets, Franklinville, according to her obituary. Burial will follow in Mount. Prospect Cemetery in Franklinville.

Memorials may be made to the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church of Franklinville, or the Food Bank of Western New York.
