ITHACA, NY – It’s not much news, but it’s good news. The Chapter House, destroyed in a fire just last year, just received the go-ahead from the Ithaca Landmarks Preservation Council to begin re-construction.

The ILPC had the final say on the rebuild due to the Chapter House falling within the East Hill Historic District. The Council oversees new construction projects to ensure that they fit in with the overall character of their surrounding neighborhoods.
Similar to its predecessor, the new Chapter House will be a three-story building with a stone and wood framing the entrance and a red brick facade above.

After a unanimous vote from the ILPC approving the design, several members of the public who had gathered to watch the proceedings erupted in applause.
All that’s needed at this point are the Building Department permits, which are technical and just require that everything will be built up to code. Things are looking good for that February construction start.
