ITHACA, N.Y. — Police are investigating multiple reports of graffiti on and near Cornell University — all with similar themes, paint and phrases.

“Cornell won’t save you,” was written in red paint at Baker War Memorial Flagpole and at a bus stop by Risley Hall. A black hammer and sickle were found painted on a statue of Andrew Dickson White — the university’s first president — and red symbols were on Goldwin Smith Hall pillars behind the statue.

More graffiti on Sigma Pi Fraternity at 730 University Ave.  states “Kill your rapist,” and depicts a guillotine where “Off with your heads,” is written.

The Cornell daily crime log indicates that graffiti was also found on the east door of  Milstein Hall, causing $1,500 worth of damage, and at Balch Hall on an archway and exterior west side of the building.

The graffiti at the fraternity is being investigated by Ithaca police. Officer Jamie Williamson said in an email that the crimes are being investigated as separate incidents but there is a possibility they are linked.

He said, “We do not have a usable picture of the suspect(s) at this time.  If that changes we will surely let you know.”

He said officers are sharing information with the Cornell University Police Department, which is investigating the other incidents.

A university representative said in an email:

The case at 730 University Ave. is being investigated by IPD, the rest are being investigated by the Cornell University Police.  All of the cases and information about the cases the Cornell University Police are investigating appeared on yesterday’s log.   https://dailycrimelog.cupolice.cornell.edu/

Most of the graffiti is similar but being that the cases are still under criminal investigation, I am not able to comment further.  If  there are any arrests or referrals that result from these investigations, they will be detailed on our daily log.
