ITHACA, N.Y. — The Arctic blast moving through the northeast right now has left some areas seeing the coldest temperatures ever recorded. Ithaca — as per usual this winter — managed to dodge the worst of the weather.
But it still is very cold.

The coldest temperature this weekend was early Sunday morning when it reached -11 degrees between about 4:46 a.m. and 6:56 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. That’s well below the coldest temperature ever recorded on this day, which is -18 degrees in 1987, Accuweather.com reports.

But -11 degrees is well below what’s normal for minimum temperatures this time of year, about 16.5 degrees, the Northeast Regional Climate says. On Valentine’s Day last year, for instance, the low temperature recorded was 18 degrees.
Ithaca missed the absolute worst of the Arctic blast, though. Watertown was the coldest place in the continental United States today at 37 degrees below zero, according to Syracuse.com.
Nevertheless, it sure is cold Sunday morning in Ithaca.
