ITHACA, N.Y. — A flood advisory has been issued in Tompkins County as rain hammers the area and slush and ice clog drains.

The National Weather Service issued the advisory just after noon, stating that streets and low lying areas across Central New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania are susceptible to flooding. The advisory is issued until 6 p.m.
The advisory means river or stream levels are elevated. The weather service is suggesting that people not try to cross flooded roads because of the risk of fast moving water carrying vehicles away.
About two inches of precipitation is predicted to fall in Ithaca Tuesday, the weather service says.
A winter weather advisory is also in effect until 7 p.m. A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to become just snow by the mid-to-late afternoon. During this time, heavy snowfall is possible.
Driving conditions are considered hazardous and gusts of wind up to 25 mph are expected.
The Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response has said that highway crews are clearing roadways throughout the county in an effort to make driving safe.
