ITHACA, NY – Ithaca Police secured a package on Sunday containing a substantial amount of materials used for cooking methamphetamine.

According to a statement released by the Ithaca Police Department, someone reported a suspicious package near Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Initial investigation determined that the package contained materials commonly used to produce methamphetamine. The officers who located the package called for assistance to ensure the investigation could continue safely.

New York State Police sent their Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (C-CSERT) to process the scene and the package. Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs ambulance were also on scene as a precaution.

Enough materials were found in the package to constitute a charge of Unlawful Disposal of Methamphetamine Laboratory Material, a class E Felony.

However, no arrests were made. An investigation is ongoing.
