ITHACA, N.Y. — A man who stabbed a person twice in the chest last spring near Dewitt Mall was sentenced to prison Wednesday afternoon.

Bruce R. Mead II was sentenced to two to four years in prison as part of a plea deal for admitting guilt to a second-degree attempted assault charge. He initially faced felonies for two counts of second-degree assault and one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
When he accepted the plea deal on Dec. 3, he said, “I took the law into my own hands.”
Reports about the stabbing show that Mead stabbed a man twice in the chest around 1:30 p.m. April 17.

According to a woman at the scene, Mead approached four men sitting on a curb with a silver pocketknife.

The men began arguing and one of the people with the group punched Mead in the face twice.
“The suspect charges at the victim with a closed fist, as if someone would stab another person in a very angry, aggressive manner,” the woman later told police. “The suspect did this twice, really fast.”
The man was treated at Cayuga Medical Center.
In December, Mead said, “The victim, along with others, engaged in a conspiracy that led to me being assaulted and mugged.”
He said he then retaliated by stabbing a man, which he knows he shouldn’t have done.
