The Mental Health Association in Tompkins County and Performing Arts for Social Change are pleased to invite you to performances of 1 Out of 7: A Poetic Moment of Transformative Art, on April 12th and 13th at 7:30pm on the Third Floor Hall of the Community School of Music and Arts.
1 Out of 7 is an original piece addressing the pursuit of mental health and the surrounding stigmas.*
Directed by Cynthia Henderson, Fulbright Scholar, Ithaca College Associate Professor and founder of PASC and produced by the Mental Health Association in Tompkins County, 1 Out of 7 aims to create a dialogue about how we view mental health and people struggling with mental health challenges.
The play is written, compiled, and performed by members of the community with lived-experience combating mental health issues and/or providing mental health services, and explores a variety of perspectives through spoken word, music and dance. A talk-back panel discussion will talk place after the April 12th performance.
The Mental Health Association in Tompkins County is a community-based organization that works to develop and maintain a coordinated citizens’ movement, with participation from recipients of mental health services to work toward empowering individuals, families, and groups through advocacy and the provision of services which promote mental health, and educating and information to the general public about mental health issues. The agency is proud to produce 1 Out of 7, which furthers this mission of empowerment and education.
Performing Arts for Social Change is a program whose mission is to raise awareness and educate by giving a voice to important societal issues that are often overlooked. We do this through the creation and development of performance pieces that serve as teaching moments for the people involved in the creative process as well as for the audiences who view it. Performing Arts for Social Change is not an affiliate of Ithaca College Theatre Arts.
