ITHACA, N.Y. — Police responded to reports of a shooting at the West Village Apartments on Wednesday night, police said.

The incident happened at 10:53 p.m. at the West Village Apartments, police said.
“Officers arrived on scene and began canvassing the area for victims or witnesses. Officers located several shell casings in the street but no victim or suspect. Witnesses in the area advised they heard the shooting but no suspect information has been confirmed at the time of this Media Release,” a news release states.
Officer Jamie Williamson said the case is being investigated and it’s currently unclear what, if any, information was captured on the apartment complex’s video surveillance system.
In January, Ithaca’s Common Council approved the Officer Next Door program for the West Village Apartments and some of the area around the complex. The program allows at least two officers to live, free of charge, in the apartments with the hopes of deterring crime and building trust among residents and police officials.
