ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell police have said that an “unsubstantiated threat” made against the university community has ended.

In a news release Tuesday, officials said threats referencing causing harm to others were made on two websites unaffiliated with Cornell. The threats were allegedly non-specific and did not mention a location or motive.
Police said Wednesday that while investigation into the incidents is ongoing with local and federal police, officials do not believe there is a threat at Cornell.
Increased security measures at Slope Day Thursday were also listed in a notice from Cornell University Police Chief Kathy Zoner.
The notice can be read in its entirety below:
Dear Members of the Cornell Community,
I write with an update to my Monday email regarding the unsubstantiated threats made against the University. We have had no reported incidents related to those threats and believe that the threat is over.
As always, I encourage you to maintain your increased vigilance as we, the Cornell Police, continue to investigate with our local and federal partners.
An increased police presence on the Ithaca campus will remain in effect until at least after Slope Day on Thursday to maximize the safety of that event, and the ability of our students to celebrate the end of the semester.
Please be prepared for additional security measures at Slope Day and other large events on our campuses — increased personnel, prohibition of large bags, container searches and greater overall scrutiny of behaviors. You can help us by staying alert to your surroundings and reporting any suspicious items or activity by calling 607-255-1111 or 911 if it is an emergency.
Many thanks,
Kathy Zoner
Chief, Cornell University Police Department
