ITHACA, N.Y. — At least 300 burgers, 300 hot dogs and gallons of ice cream were heartily enjoyed by the community at the second annual Ithaca Police Department Community Barbecue.

Hundreds of people attended the event, well over the 100 people who attended the first one last October.

Police Chief John Barber said the event is meant to build a bridge between the community and officers to improve communication between them.

Barber said, “I like the unified approach to to keeping the community safe.”

About 20 officers, on duty and off duty, went to the event to enjoy the free food and talk with people. Attendees were also given the chance to submit suggestions for the department. Barber said the department will read every single note they got at the event.

Here are our favorite photos from the event.
