UPDATE: 5:44 p.m. — According to Lieutenant Dan Donahue of the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department, a report came in from Seneca County dispatch saying that a person had been seen swimming in the lake around 3:15 p.m. When the call came in at 3:36, the caller said they had lost sight of the person.

Initially there were several “good Samaritan” boats on the scene lending aid and information to first responders, but most of them have been cleared out.

Boats from Ithaca Fire Department, Lansing Fire and Rescue, Romulus Fire Department, Union Springs Fire Departments, and Aurora Fire and Rescue, among others, are still on the lake. The New York State Police Dive Team is still en route.

They are focusing their search on the area North of Myer’s point, also being called Salt Point, along the eastern shore of the lake.

The area is likely to be closed for the rest of the day.

Officials aren’t saying whether it is a rescue or recovery operation at this point. They also are unsure of how much longer they will be continuing the search.
