ITHACA,  N.Y. — The Department of Public Works is reporting that some areas of the city will have brown water or no water Monday.

According to social media posts, the two incidents are not related.

The first notice states:

BROWN WATER NOTICE: Residents north of State street and west of Cayuga St., you may experience a temporary brown water disturbance due to a water valve break at the clock tower building on Hancock St. – this is sending brown water through the lines and the crew will be flushing immediately after the repair.

Please call the office (272-1717) with your address if you are receiving brown water. We thank you for your patience. (please leave a message if the lines are busy.)

The second notice states:

GOOD MORNING ITHACA! We have received a call that area residents near the Taughannock Blvd. / Treman Marina zone … may find yourself with little or possibly no water at this time. A water line was accidentally snagged during the Black Diamond Trail construction by the contractors there.

I will provide more information as it comes in.

This is a developing story.
