ITHACA, N.Y. — Severe weather — rain, thunderstorms, hail, localized flooding — is possible in Tompkins County beginning Tuesday afternoon.
A cold front moving through the area is expected to come with storms beginning around 2 p.m. and lasting until about 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The Weather Channel states that there will be south or southwest moving winds up to 15 mph in Ithaca, and temperatures are expected to lower to the mid-to-upper 80s.
The weather service is reporting that the area has a “slight” thunderstorm risk, meaning that bad weather will likely be isolated or short-lived, but wind damage to trees and power lines, as well as a chance for hail, are still possible.
Tornado development is also possible during the storms, but not predicted for Tompkins County. The risk for tornadoes is reported to be more toward the western Mohawk Valley and east into the Catskills.
