Editor’s Note: The following is a republished press release written by the Cornell University Police Department and NOT written by the Ithaca Voice.
Cornell University Police recently received information from the Cayuga Heights Police Department and members of our community that raises our concern for community safety.
On Aug. 22 and again on Sept. 1, during the late evening and early morning hours, a white or cream colored older model minivan suddenly and aggressively pulled over and then approached female pedestrians walking along Triphammer Road between Sisson Place and Country Club Road. The female pedestrians report that in both cases, the minivan was occupied by a white male driver and white female passenger with curly hair and wearing dark glasses. Both appear to be in their 30’s. During the incident on Aug. 22 the occupants of the vehicle told the pedestrians that they were a taxicab and asked if they wanted a ride.
If you have any information that would aid this investigation please contact the Cayuga Heights Police Department at 607-257-1011 or the Cornell University Police at 607-255-1111. If someone approaches you in a vehicle that you do not know, you do not have to engage them in conversation. If they don’t leave you alone, call 911. We encourage our community to be aware of your surroundings and report suspected criminal behavior. During hours of darkness, please take advantage of the Blue Light services. http://www.cupolice.cornell.edu/emergency/blue_light_info.cfm
