ITHACA, N.Y. — The Downtown Ithaca Alliance (DIA) enthusiastically announces its latest activities for one of its newest events, Day Out In Downtown.
This fun-filled, midday event, slated for Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., is a special monthly event geared towards the community’s older population, providing them with an opportunity to spend a day downtown participating in educational and entertaining activities while discovering or reacquainting themselves with downtown’s offerings.
The day’s activities will begin at Community Arts Partnership, 171 E. State/Martin Luther King Jr. St., where artist Uniit Carruyo will give an informal talk about her artistry and latest exhibit, Harmonic Seascapes, which is displayed in the partnership’s gallery. Participants will have the chance to view Carruyo’s beautifully crafted paintings which were created using a mixture of acrylic, ink, fiber, light, and glass.
Following this informative activity, attendees will then get to unwind and socialize while they enjoy a special, all-inclusive, lunch at one of Ithaca’s newest restaurants on The Commons, Due Amici Ristorante, 124 The Commons. The Mediterranean-influenced meal will include a salad, drink, and a choice of entree— falafel, chicken kebab or Gyro kebab — served over rice. The cost for this tasty activity is $10.
After lunch, at 1 p.m., participants can walk the short distance to Cinemapolis to watch a special matinee showing of the Golden Globe-winning Hollywood Musical La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, John Legend and Rosemarie DeWitt. Tickets to this box office hit are only $6, and participants will receive a complimentary bag of popcorn dressed with F. Olivers delicious artisan oils and special seasoning blends. F. Olivers staff will be at the theater to greet guests and offer them tastings of their fine products.
Those who are interested in Day Out in Downtown are welcome to come for one, two, or all three of these events.
“Downtown boasts many stores, restaurants, and services. Some of them are new, or they provide new products and services, so encourage the public to attend Day Out to discover downtown’s latest offerings, meet with one of our talented artists, shop at the multiple retail sites, and/or savor the meal Due Amici is preparing for our guests,” said DIA Executive Director Gary Ferguson.
